Does Simple Budget connect to my bank?
No. Simple Budget is deliberately manual. You import transactions via CSV or enter them yourself — we never ask for banking credentials, and we have zero bank connections. This keeps your financial data private and your account immune to the security and reliability issues that come with third-party aggregators.
What currencies does Simple Budget support?
We support 80+ currencies with daily exchange rate updates. You can set a default currency per budget, mix currencies across accounts, and view reports in any currency you choose.
Can I share a budget with my partner or family?
Yes. The Family plan lets up to five people collaborate on shared budgets in real time. Each person has their own account and sign-in; you decide who can edit what with per-role permissions.
How is my data secured?
Sign-in is handled by Microsoft Entra External ID with OAuth 2.0 and PKCE. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Each account’s data is fully isolated — no shared tenants, no cross-account queries. See our Security page for the full breakdown.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The Free plan supports one budget and one currency — enough to try envelope budgeting end to end with no time limit. Upgrade to Personal or Family when you’re ready.
What is envelope budgeting?
Envelope budgeting means assigning every dollar a job before you spend it. You allocate income into categories (groceries, rent, savings) like envelopes of cash, and spend only what each envelope holds. Simple Budget is built around this workflow.
Can I import my existing data?
Yes. Simple Budget imports CSV files from most banks and other budgeting apps. You map columns once and re-import future statements with the same mapping.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your account settings at any time. Your data stays accessible on the Free plan, and you can export everything as CSV whenever you like.
